Located on a sunny hill in northern Vienna stands a major testimony of Vienna’s architecture from the interwar era. In 1932/33 the Jewish couple Anna und Philipp Rezek commissioned the then little-known architect Hans Glas with this Villa following the style of the New Objectivity.
Modern equipment and materials and innovative technical solutions characterize the building. The sun terraces, sliding windows and the abundance of light in all rooms are a reminder of the contemporary health buildings that promoted the healing motto „light – air – sun“. As both clients were doctors, could this be a coincidence?
The stepped garden area from landscape designer Albert Esch continues the building’s architecture on the outside and is partially preserved.
After a varied history and structural changes, Villa Rezek has been restored since 2019, accompanied by Austria’s federal monument office and supported by a Conservation Management Plan.
